Most of these project management applications offer free trials. Project management doesn’t have to be a headache anymore.

I’ve tried to find the best project manager for both work and personal and still haven’t come across one that truly has the interface and functionality (and price) I’m looking for. I am a fan of remember the milk and use this on a daily basis for personal tasks; the integration with Google calendar and the android app are definitely a huge plus.
However, In terms of collaboration and project management tools for my company, most of the tools I’ve tried have been open source ones. The one we currently use is Project Open (http://www.project-open.org/) but I’ve played around with a plethora of others before I found one that worked for us.
I can’t comment on most of the ones described here Amber but I’ve read good things about BASECAMP. If you’re going to be paying for the software and have the budget, I’d seriously also suggest checking out Teamwork (http://www.twproject.com/) I tested this one out back in the day and the only thing I couldn’t deal with was the pricing.

For those of you interested in a Windows project management software tool that can operate over an office network, you may like to try TaskMerlin at http://www.taskmerlin.com/. It’s full-featured, and you’ll find the pricing is more attractive than most subscription-based products.
I don’t really use a project management tool. I find it’s overkill for a one-person business. Does anyone who freelances by themselves use it?
I’m a freelancer and use a project management tool for myself.
It let’s me keep all my work for clients separate and show them updates on progress.
Also, I like to keep everything as a project form (a la The Action Method), so I use it to break down all my personal projects too.
It’s not for everyone, but it works really, really well for me. I could never go back to not using one.
Well I use Billings which is kind of a project management app, although it’s really more for time tracking/billing/quoting. Personally I think adding another app would be just more time wasted, although I could def see the benefits of one for a multi-team.
I can see that. Everyone has a different method.
I use DeskAway, which allows me to track my time right in it, then export it to Freshbooks and call it a day.
@Amber I mostly use them for my office job but for freelancing, I use remember the milk quite frequently to add and manage client tasks…more as reminders than as project management though. For my freelance work, I started using Paymo.biz early on and have stuck with it ever since. It’s seemed to have everything I’ve needed so far; client, task and project management as well as time tracking and invoicing and best of all it’s free. They offer a taskbar widget too which is an added convenience.
Some of these products are not really project management software but rather personal organizing tools (Remember The Milk for example).
I would like to also mention RationalPlan. It is a project management software working on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
Another project planning app worth checking out is Intervals. It is especially useful if you also need time tracking, task management and the ability to run reports and invoice your clients. Although it will work for freelancers it is a much better fit for small teams.
Nice article here, you may also want to look at precurio at http://www.precurio.com/index.php
Though an Intranet application, it has got a very effective task manager and for all i care its free.
Thanks for including DeskAway to the list! Appreciate it.
Hi all, I’m trying Toggl (www.toggl.com) seems to be very good internet based application witg Adroid and Iphone support.
2-plan is a project management tool that is based on the Rich Client Platform (RCP) and consists of a basic framework along with many extensions like additional functionality, reports, perspectives and views.
2-plan is not only a Rich Client. There is also webbased variant called 2-plan Team available. @see http://2-plan.com/
Recently, our team leader has decided to switch from Huddle to WorkForceTrack . Because it is cheaper than Huddle and has almost the same functions. As far as I know, they also offer some kind of discounts. So, I am recommending you to try this
Your blog is really interesting to me and your subject matter is very relevant. I was browsing around and came across something you might find interesting. I was guilty of 3 of them with my sites. “99% of site managers are committing these five errors”. http://tinyurl.com/cuyfkfj You will be suprised how simple they are to fix.
