Contribute Fridays: Do you use passive income to supplement your freelancing income?
We haven’t had one of these in forever! I’ve recently started to try to make some passive income, to supplement the slow times. I’ve signed up for a few affiliate programs, am now offering advertising on my site and am working on some WordPress themes to sell on Themeforest.
What about you? How do you supplement your freelance income?

Freelancing is not my main source of income. I am a webmaster of an ecommerce site where I design the site, create the ecommerce, send out html emails(myself), view analytics, take pictures of items, and many other tasks involved. Seriously its a big amount of my time but I do still accept freelance projects at a smaller rate.
I guess hosting is one of the better passive incomes a freelancer can have. Today you can have a start level dedicated server or a good cloud server for under U$200.00!
Of course set up e-mails, manage quotas and offer support for configuring email softwares is a bit boring… But with just a few clients you can pay your server bills and make some extra money.
Managing email marketing and googleads campaigns is also a good way to go
Personally, I was never a fan of starting my own hosting, or even offering other’s hosting as my own…I don’t want to have to deal with angry customers at 2am because they can’t figure out how to gook up their emails! lol but majoy koodos to you for doing it for us
I never had the experience of have someone calling in the middle of the night because of that, but of course it can happen.
I minimize this chance by being clear with everybody: I just have a dedicated server with “XYZ” company. My job is to create your e-mail accounts, keep the server up and running and offer support. It also make it easier for me to sell monthly packs for site/system changes.
Having a good help page teaching how to configure e-mails also help a lot!
