Morality in Web Development – Your Thoughts?

I’ve been doing websites for as long as I can remember. Because of that, I’ve done at least one website for almost everything, from different kinds of religions, to goofy products, to websites in languages I couldn’t even understand.
However since I started freelancing, I’ve never had to do a website that really bothered me until recently. This potential client really got me thinking, how does our sense of morality effect the clients we work with?

Personally I let my personal standards guide everything I do and the hard truth is, I’ve paid dearly for it, however I would not have it any other way. A person MUST be true to their convictions and it should guide EVERYTHING they do. If you lose a job or lose money or whatever happens to you, there is no price you can put on personal honor. You can always get more money and another job, but its not so easy to earn honor and integrity.
Note I’m not saying what those standards (morals) should be, I’m only saying that we should have them and they should guide our actions in everything we do, including work.
Hi Amber, one comment apart from the post. I follow you through your RSS feed and have been watching this and other post with the title “Protected: …’post title’” for a week or so. I guess you were developing this post and it was not available to the public, but your RSS feed made it public. Of course, when I opened the link I could not read it cause it was password protected.
On the post: I guess it depends on the organization and the website they want:
Adult sites: Sure, as long as they have a preview warning about adult material that does’nt show any explicit content and as long as they use some form of age checking (Like requesting for an active credit card number).
Discriminatory/Hate Sites: No way on earth. If they make apologies of discriminating, assaulting, insulting or any other kind of aggressive behavior against some group (minority or majority); then I don’t want to be related at all.
Religious Sites: As long as they’re peaceful and don’t discriminate, just like you said.
Political Sites Opposed to my Ideas: Sure, no problem. I believe in freedom of speech and free will. People will follow this person/group/organization because they believe in their ideas, not because of the site I do. Although it might help.
