Any of you know me, know I hate PDF books. I simply can’t stand to stare at my computer screen, after I’ve already been on it for several hours working. I also prefer the weight and solidarity of a beautifully printed heavy real book.
However, when I heard that Alex Mathers was coming out with his own book, the 10 Steps to Powerful Self Promotion for Creatives (affiliate link), I jumped at the opportunity to ask for an advance copy. Don’t ask me why, it was just a feeling I got that the book was going to be good – and I wasn’t disappointed. I give this book 4.5 stars out of 5.
The problem I have when reviewing marketing books is that they’re all the same and they’re all written by social media “experts”. Everyone tells you that you need great SEO, social media and links back to your site. Blah blah blah. Not many books share unique information. Alex’s does.
Of course, he also shares the same basic info we’ve all heard before, but he expands on it and there were several techniques that I personally hadn’t heard of.
The book was laid out in 10 very easy steps, with 223 pages. Each step was then broken down into smaller steps, so you could basically work on these and your business as you read along with the book.
It included information on the very basics of setting up your site and finding hosting, to how to use Squidoo to drie traffic to your site (bet you never heard of that one before).
The book was extremely easy to read and I read it in a couple of hours over 2 days, so it makes for a fast and informative read.
The end of the book contains a resources section, which in my opinion, is worth the price of the book alone. It contains hundreds of links to blogging platforms, link exchange sites and other useful marketing links to start your site on it’s way to famedom.
