Win A Lifetime Ninja Account From Codesnippit
In celebration of our beta launch, I though we’d have ourselves a fun contest!
What’s the prize?
I’m giving away a lifetime Ninja account to THREE lucky winners chosen at random. A ninja account means you get unlimited codesnipp.its to post each month, every month!
What do you have to do to win?
- Tweet about your favorite feature in codesnipp.it, what you plan to use it for, or whatever you’d like to say about us. Make sure you add @codesnippit and your user ID to the END of your tweet so we know about it (and so others can see it).
- Multiple tweets DO count this time! So tweet about us as much as you like for extra entries.
- Feel free to share on Facebook as well, just make sure to drop a link to the status here in the comments (and make sure your account is public so we can see it!)
BONUS prize! (do I sound like a TV commercial yet???)
Everyone who participates automatically gets an extra 10 codesnipp.its to use this month! See, in my world, everyones a winner. ![]()
Need an invite?
Just send your email to info@codesnipp.it
Contest starts now and ends at 3 p.m Friday the 11th. Good luck!

Aww. See, I’m one of those lazy bums who doesn’t even have an account yet. It sounds like a cool app, but I think it’ll be a few months before I have the time to really use it. I’ll bug you for an invite later.
Congrats on getting the app built and launched. It’s quite an accomplishment and a Hell of a way to spend Memorial Day weekend.
LOL Well let me know if you want one and I can send you one.
Hi, congrats on the launch.
Just wondering what codesnippet offers over aSnippet?
I like the aSnippet adobe air app
Well it’s not an air app you have to install…that’s a big difference and I think it works better and is more attractive. Built more for sharing and finding new code.
Amber,
aSnippet is also a code sharing app, so the adobe air app connects to the internet and you get access to all the shared snippets within the app
It’s also an app you have to download to use, which means a lot of users won’t use it.
will there be a public api?
You’re promoting this “codesnipp.it” thing, which is fine — but there’s absolutely *nothing* on that site, or in any blog post I’ve found, that explains *what it is*, or why I should care.
Or is it just intended for people with highly developed ESP? If so, I guess I’m out of luck
There’s an explanation of what it is/does on my app page, as well as the title page of the app’s homepage, as well as the twitter account it’s connected to, as well as my own tweets.
Basically, it’s an app for developers to share code and find new code and follow their favotire devs. Basically a social version of Coda Clips or Dreamweaver Snippets.
Respectfully,
>There’s an explanation of what it is/does on my app page
? Not sure why I would know to look there, if I’m looking at the app’s site.
> as well as the title page of the app’s homepage
“title page”? I’m looking at the only page I can see right now and there’s nothing but a login form.
> as well as the twitter account it’s connected to
Which says “A secret web app just for developers.” — uh, OK…
> as well as my own tweets.
Sorry, I’ve seen lots of mentions of it, but never anything about what it does.
> Basically, it’s an app for developers to share code and find new code and follow their favotire devs.
OK, cool, now I know. It wouldn’t hurt to put that on the app’s home page, though, would it???
Just sayin’…
You could’ve just asked for an invite LOL> There’s no description because it was a secret during dev, but I’ve talked about it so much on Twitter, most users knew what it was.
Well, yeah, but I didn’t want to waste one if it wasn’t something I’d use. But it you’re offering, sure, I’d be interested in checking it out
Ooohhh… I’m excited to see this. I’ll admit I only found your blog a few days ago, so I’m not versed on what features CodeSnipp.its will offer, but I’ve been looking for a good solution for ages. Right now I’m stuck with a local wordpress installation with some custom plugins. I create posts with code in them, that code gets highlighted… it works, but being local, there’s nothing social about it.
If you’re still giving out beta invites, I’d love to tinker around with it. Thanks! I’m off to tweet it now.
I sent you one
I hope I become a Lifetime Ninja! I’m trying! lol.
Good luck to everyone, lovin’ the app so far, so this would be brilliant!
My tweet: http://twitter.com/BenjaminReid/status/15444137652
I spread the word on Facebook but cannot remember for the life of me how to link to a status update, so I’ve screen grabbed it! Hope this is okay: http://twitpic.com/1txgzy
good enough for me ^_^
Wow, developers are a tough crowd! Good solid feedback/questions from both @Hassan and @Paul and handled well by Amber. makes me wish I was tech savvy-er
but I find most of Amber’s work/writing universal, so I will continue to read and enjoy.
LOL Yea we’re a bunch of whiners today aren’t we? I think we’re all grumpy from the long week
But it’s ok, Hassan was right, we needed some sort of descrip, even a small one on the home page. Once we’ve finished the major features, I plan to keep the site invite only, but show the public timeline so people can still use it and know what it’s about
And thanks for being a reader
that makes you super awesome in my book.
I’ve also been looking for a great snippet site for awhile. I don’t have an invite so not sure what features it currently has or you plan to have, but how does it different from sites like http://snipplr.com/ and http://snipt.net/ ? Both sites I’ve used in the past but never fully enjoyed. Currently I just use gist.github.com for storing code snippets but its not entirely meant for snippets really. Interested to hear/see more on this app and if it will fit my needs.
I just sent you an invite so you can see the differences for yourself, let me know what you think
In my opinion it’s a bit to early to call codesnippit in beta state.
At this moment I can only add snippets and follow users. That’s it.
When will come the features they will make the differences to already existing code snippet applications like http://www.snipplr.com?
Is it “only” the share&follow others thing? Or can we expect more than that?
Perhaps you misunderstand the definition of beta….
snipplr allows you to add snippets, but there’s no social aspect, it’s terribly designed and hard to find what you’re looking for. Codesnippit allows you to
follow awesome developers, see what they’re working in, learn from it, comment on it and bookmark code you want to come back to. I’ve had several snipplr users already tell me that codesnippit is more useful.
The lack of some fundamental features like user profiles (more than just a name), account settings and until a few days ago code highlighting is the reason why I just mentioned that it feels more like alpha than beta state. But that’s really not that problem. It’s not my intention to attack you or talking bad about codesnippit. I really like it although the lack of a lot of features which will come soon I think.
My comparison to snipplr was only an example. Design is a matter of taste so that’s not a valid argument for me. But the social aspect you mentioned is a good point!
So keep up the good work cause I like the social features in codesnippet and hope that many more developers will find the way to this site.
I understand, I didn’t mean to sound snippy. We have a ton of features coming soon and we’re working on it almost every day ^_^; we wanted to get the basics up first to ensure people would actually enjoy it and use it and it seems so far we’ve gotten great feedback. We also plan to have an open API (especially for myself, would love to show my additions on here) and twitter/fb integration as well.
That sounds great! A clean and solid API is a major key to success I think.
The great feedback you’ve gotten is absolutly eligible.
Btw, I see on your twitter updates you are hardly working on the search functionality? Good luck for this!
Just tweeted. I also referred a bunch of my website developing geekyfriends. Can’t wait for new and new features
Just mailed an invite! Its looking very promising. Connecting my local friends now
can I have an invite please?
thanks
thanks!
If I understand well, the more snippits one posts, the more he has to pay?
shouldn’t the top contributors be rewarded instead of penalized? Or am I missing the concept?
Unfortunately hosting costs have to be paid somehow – and it isn’t cheap for the amount of users we’re expecting. Just like Pandora, Freshbooks, Dropbox and Dribbble, there has to be a limit to control costs.
Woo-hoo! I won. Thanks Amber.
I won too. First time I won a web contest. Thanks Amber
